Dr. Moshe Jeger

Dr. Jeger brings a wealth of experience in higher education, spanning various teaching, research, and leadership positions. With an impressive career of over 40 years at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), including more than 30 years at its College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in Old Westbury, NY, he has established himself as a distinguished professional.

At NYITCOM, Dr. Jeger held several notable roles, including Assistant Dean for Academic Outreach and Site Development, Associate Dean of Clinical Education, Director of Health Psychology, and Director of the Educational Development Resource Unit. As a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, he played a significant part in NYITCOM’s problem-based medical school curriculum, where he facilitated learning as a faculty member. His teaching portfolio encompassed courses on human diversity and behavioral medicine, showcasing his expertise in these areas. Additionally, he provided guidance to faculty and hospital administrators on effective communication and leadership through his presentations.

Dr. Jeger’s dedication to student services is evident through his establishment of a comprehensive student advisement/mentoring system. This system integrated academic resources, psychological support, and career advisement to provide holistic assistance to students. Taking a hands-on approach, Dr. Jeger personally mentored “high-risk” students throughout the school and served as a faculty advisor to student organizations. He also spearheaded community outreach programs and forged educational affiliations for clinical sites. Over the course of two decades, he successfully directed the clinical clerkship program, overseeing the assignment of over 5,000 annual clerkships to more than 40 affiliated sites. Moreover, he meticulously vetted and appointed over 1,900 preceptors and clinical supervisors, ensuring the highest standards of education and training.

On a personal level, Dr. Jeger resides in Lawrence with his wife, Rochelle. Born to parents who survived the Holocaust in Sighet, Romania, he is fluent in English, his fifth language. Their blessed family includes four children and numerous grandchildren. Alongside his professional commitments and fulfilling family life, Dr. Jeger has led a weekly study group on classical and contemporary Jewish thought at Congregation Bais Avrohom Zev of Lawrence for the past 16 years.
